20140316 The Extra Mile

Sunday, March, 16 2014

Pastor Matt McFarland

This is the 1st recording in the newly remodeled sanctuary.  Please bear with us as we work to bring you the best viewing and listening experience possible.

Please open your Bible and follow along.

Verses referenced in this teaching:

Matthew 5:38-44  38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:  39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.  40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.  41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.  42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.  43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.  44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Luke 6:27-29  27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,  28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.  29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.

Romans 12:1-2 & 5  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

1 Corinthians 12:12  12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

Luke 19:2 & 7  2 And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.  7 And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

20140209 The Main Ingredient

Verses referenced in this teaching:

Hebrews 4:12  12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Philemon 1:6  6 That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Romans 1:16  16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

2 Corinthians 1:20  20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Galatians 1:6-9  6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.  8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.  9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

1 Corinthians 10:13  13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

1 Kings 17:1 & 9-16  1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.  10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.  11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.  12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.  13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.  14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.  15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.  16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.

Romans 10:17  17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Mark 9:23  23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

20140119 Could Your Day Be Better?

Sunday, January, 19 2014

Pastor Matt McFarland

*Notes* – This is the first video recorded with a new, upgraded-model HD video camera, and it may take a little longer than usual to download.  And, although this is a Sunday Service, due to construction/remodeling of the sanctuary, it was held in the Fellowship Hall.

Please open your Bible and follow along.

Psalms 46:1  God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalms 121:1-2  I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

Romans 8:31-39  31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?  32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?  33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.  34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.  35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.  37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.  38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,  39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Corinthians 8:9  9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

2 Corinthians 5:21  21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Matthew 6:25-26  25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?  26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

2 Corinthians 4:16  16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

20131201 What Type of Soil Are You?

Sunday, December 1, 2013

Pastor Matt McFarland

Please open your Bible and follow along.

Matthew 13:1-8  The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.  2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.  3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;  4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:  5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:  6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.  7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:  8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

Matthew 13:3b-4a  Behold, a sower went forth to sow;  4 And when he sowed,

4 Types of Soil
1) By the Wayside – Doesn’t understand what they’ve read or been taught
Matthew 13:4 & 19  4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:  19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

2) Stony Ground – Comes for awhile & then lets a trial or tribulation derail them.
Matthew 13:5-6 & 20-21  5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:  6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.  20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;  21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

3) Thorny Ground – Lets the cares of this world & desire for material wealth choke out
the influence of the Word and diminish the ‘fruit’ they produce.
Matthew 13:7 & 22  7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:  22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

4) Good Ground – Hears the Word, understands & applies it and brings forth fruit.
Matthew 13:8 & 23  8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.  23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

20131021 Love and Forgiveness – Part 2

Storge = family love and it’s a natural feeling/emotion

Phileo = friendship love and also a natural feeling/emotion

Agapao = God love, unconditional, a giving love without the thought of what’s in it for me. It’s a choice vs. a feeling kind of love.

Romans 12:10 (MIT)

1 Timothy 3:2  A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Titus 1:8  But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

1 Peter 4:9  Use hospitality (philoxenos) one to another without grudging.

Hebrews 13:2  Be not forgetful to entertain (philoxenos) strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

 1 Timothy 6:10  For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

2 Timothy 3:1-4  This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.  2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves (philautos), covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,  3 Without natural affection (astorgos), trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,  4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures (philedos) more than lovers of God (philotheos);
