Does God really heal? Millions of people are asking this same question all over the world. Not just people that are sick and uneducated, but also the healthy and intelligent have the same question on their lips. People are asking, “Does God really restore sight to a blind person? Did God really heal that person that was dying of cancer? Does God really put strength back into a cripple person’s leg? Did God really give that person a new heart?” Doctors, lawyers, factory workers, ministers, politicians, Christians, non-Christians, people that go to church and people that do not; all types of people are asking this question. And that, beloved, is the reason for this booklet. I, for one, feel that these people deserve the answers and they have the right to know. I pray that you will also find your answer in the next few pages of this booklet.
In order to answer that question, does God really heal; we must first of all be honest with ourselves. For instance, you wouldn’t call your doctor for an appointment to make out a Will or set up a Trust Fund. Neither would you call your lawyer about an x-ray you had taken last week. We must go to the right source for our answers.
God has a book. It’s called the Bible. The contents of the Bible are called scriptures. The Bible says, “All scriptures is given by inspiration of God” (II Timothy 3:16). The Bible has many writers, but only one author, God himself. God inspired the words of the Bible to be written. Look what Proverbs 22:20 says, “Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,” Not only has God written to us, but the things that are written are excellent in counsels and in knowledge. God wants to be our counselor. God wants us to turn to Him when we have a question, because God wants us to know His answer. That’s why the Bible was written. Read the next verse (Proverbs 22:21a), “That I might make thee know the certainly of the words of truth;” God’s word is certain, and God’s word is truth. God wants us to know the certainty of that truth.
Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten son said, “and the scripture cannot be broken;” (John 10:35b). In the book of Matthew , chapter 5, verse 18 it says, “For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Your words and my words shall pass away. But, beloved, God’s word shall never pass away. They are here to stay. God’s word is just as certain as tomorrow. No matter what happens, tomorrow will come. The same stands true of God’s word because it’s the truth and that truth is certain.
Does God really heal? We must go to God and let Him be our counselor. Our answer must come from Him. So, Let us look at what is written and read the certainty of His Truth. A good place to start is Psalms 103 verse 3 “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;” That is a mighty big statement even for God to make when you consider all the different diseases that are in the world today. God must be a great big God in order to do all that. God is a big God! Psalms 95:3 says. “For that Lord is a great God, and a great King above all Gods.” He is greater than all the diseases in the world put together. God has what it takes to restore our health and to heal our bodies because God is the one that made and put our bodies together. He put every organ in place in our bodies and He breathed the breath of life into man. Job 33:4 says, “The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the almighty hath given me life”. It would be a very sad thing, for God to have made the human body and not be able to fix it when it broke down. If we bought a new car and two weeks later it broke down, we wouldn’t park it in our driveway or junk it. We would call the car dealer. We’d say, “my automobile has broken down and you made it, now fix it.” I believe that the God that made heaven and earth and everything that dwells therein can do as much as a car manufacturer. Don’t you?
People say. “I know God healed in the book of Psalms, but things have changed since then.” That’s true, but not all things have changed. God has not changed. Malachi 3:6a says, “For I am the Lord, I change not;” God is the same God today as He was in the book of Psalms. People have changed. Our customs have changed and a lot of other things have changed since the book of Psalms, but not God. He is still the God that heals all our diseases.
Jesus said in Luke 12:24, “Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than fowls?” Do you know of a raven that worries about having a heart attack or that owes a hospital bill? Jesus said to consider them, because God takes care of them. How much better are we than the fowls?
A lot of people think God is so far away that He doesn’t know when we are in trouble. Well, in Psalms 86:7 David wrote, “In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for Thou wilt answer me.” God’s ears are open to the prayers of people. Psalms 34:15 says, “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry.” God is always listening and willing to answer your cry. If we would only do what Jesus said and consider the ravens, how God feeds them, protects them, takes care of them and watches over each and every one of them; then consider that Jesus said we are better that fowls. We would then see a remarkable change in our lives.
We are not in trouble today because God has turned His back on us, but because we have turned our backs on Him by not believing what He has told us in His word. Look at what God said in Exodus 15:26b, “For I am the Lord that healeth thee.” God said, “I am the Lord that healeth thee.” Now beloved, God either lied or He told the truth. God said, “I am not a man that I should lie” (Numbers 23:19). So why can’t we just take God at His word and believe the certainty of His truth? In Ezekiel 12:25a, God says concerning His word, “For I am the Lord; I will speak, and the word I shall speak shall com to pass;” God is able to perform what He has said, and bring to pass His promises.
In Exodus 23:25b God said, “And I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.” God said, “I will.” Not the doctors, but God will take sickness away from the midst of us. People will say, “I know God can heal, but there are some sicknesses God can’t heal. Deuteronomy 7:15a says, “And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness;”. God said He would take away all sickness. ‘All‘ means all, with no exceptions. What we need to do is to become fully persuaded and just believe God to do no more or no less than what He has said, then He will do it.
II Peter 1:3 says, “According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue:” Beloved, good health most assuredly pertains to life, for without our health, we don’t have much of a life.
Health was one of the reasons God sent His son into the world. Jesus came to make available this new life. Look what Luke 4:18b says, “He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” God sent His Son, Jesus to heal the broken-hearted. If you don’t know what it means to be broken-hearted, find someone dying of a disease and talk to them a few minutes and you will know what it is to be broken-hearted. Jesus also came to recover the sight to the blind and to set you at liberty. Liberty means to be free. Jesus came to set you free; free from sickness and diseases. You no longer need to be in bondage to your sickness because God has delivered you through His Son, Jesus Christ. In Colossians 2:10 it says, “And ye are complete in Him, Which is the head of all principality and power.” God’s word says I am complete in Jesus Christ. So, if I am complete, I’m not lacking anything. I must have health and we surely do. Look at 1 Peter 2:24b. “By Whose stripes ye were healed.” It doesn’t say we are going to be healed, but that we were healed. We are already healed in Jesus Christ, we are complete, and we are free.
Look in John 10:10b, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” How can I be sick and live a life which is more that abundant? I cannot! So, if good health and healing is not available, then neither is the more abundant life. If the more abundant life isn’t available, then The Word is not true. The Word is true and that ‘more than abundant life’ is available. God is the author of The Word and He said in II Corinthians 1:20a, “For all the promises of God in Him are yea,” The more abundant life is a promise, and the word says it’s ours. All we need to do is to claim it for our own.
A lot of people don’t believe in the healing of God because of a certain preacher and what he or she has said or done. We cannot blame God and distrust His word because of what a preacher has said or done. God is not responsible for the way we live and for what we say. We are responsible. What we hear today about the healing of God may or may not be truth, but God’s word is truth and that truth is certain. Look at what Jesus said in John 6:63b. “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life.” Just think of that. God’s words are life-giving words. Also, His words are pure. Psalms 12:6a says, “The words of the Lord are pure words:” The Bible says His words shall never fail. I Kings 8:56b says, “There hath not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised by the hand of Moses His servant.” God’s words are pure, life-giving words that shall never fail you.
So, does God really heal? The word that God spoke to the earth in the days of Jeremiah, He is still speaking today and saying, “O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord.” And the words of the Lord are, “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities: who healeth all thy diseases;” (Psalms 103:3)
