Verses referenced in this teaching:

Proverbs 14:17-18
17He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated. 18The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

Ecclesiastes 7:9
9
Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

Psalms 37:8
8Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

Ephesians 4:31-32
31Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Colossians 3:8
8But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Ephesians 4:26
26Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

1st Peter 2:21-23
21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

Ephesians 4:26
26Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

1st Peter 2:21-23
21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

Ephesians 4:23-32
23And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. 26Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27Neither give place to the devil. 28Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. 29Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. 31Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

2nd Corinthians 5:17
17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Romans 6:17-18
17But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 18Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

One Response to 20120205 Anger & Wrath

  1. Deacon Zell says:

    ANGER!
    Who has that Problem?
The common english translation of Proverbs 14:17-18 says “Short-Tempered people make stupid mistakes, and schemers are hated.”
    Short-Tempered People, Who . . . Me ?
This is a subject I have visited often, I am my own worst enemy when it comes to anger. Here are some great words of wisdom to add to Pastor Matt’s teaching:

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal
    with the intent of throwing it at someone else;
you are the one who gets burned.
    — Buddha.

For every minute you remain angry, you give
up sixty seconds of peace of mind.
    — Ralph Waldo Emerson.
